Step 1
Create a ring of 9 Speks. Using your thumb and forefinger, push the magnets into a triangle formation.
-
Step 2
Wrap a chain of 15 Speks around the edge of the triangle so that they interlock and form an irregular hexagon with 5 Speks along 3 edges and 2 speks along 3 edges, like so. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 19 more times.
-
Step 3
Using either a different color of Speks (it’s more fun this way!) or the same color, form a ring of 12 Speks.
This next step is a bit tricky at first, but simple once you get the hang of it. Hold down one side of the ring with your finger, and with your other hand, attach 4 Speks so that they interlock along the outside of the ring. This will make the side flat. Rotate the ring slightly, skip one Spek, and then attach 4 more Speks and nudge the shape inward so that this side is flat. Repeat by adding 4 more Speks to the remaining side. Now you have an irregular hexagon with 3 Speks along 3 edges and 4 Speks along 3 Edges. Repeat 19 more times. -
Step 4
Take one hexagon from Step 1 and one hexagon from Step 2 and align the 3-Spek and 2-Spek edges. Stack them together so that the Speks in each shape align. Repeat this with all of the hexagons so that you have 20 total layered units.
-
Step 5
To make the small sphere, align each unit along its 4-Spek edge until every 4-Spek edge is touching.
-
Or Reverse It!
To make a large ball, align each unit along its 2-Spek edge until every 2-Spek edge is touching!
-
Ta-da!
All done.
